SURGICAL DISEASES CAUSED BY PARASITES

Abstract
|
|
|
Surgical diseases caused by parasites were reviewed based on literatures in Korea. Parasite-induced surgical diseases were as follows:
1) Surgical diseases caused by ascaris lumbricoides were biliary ascariasis, appendical ascariasis, intestinal obstruction with ascaris mass, acute pancreatitis, intussusception and ascariasis in the liver and other organs due to immigration of ascaris.
2) Surgical diseases caused by entameba histolytica were amebic colitis and liver abscess.
3) Surgical diseases caused by clonorchis sinensis were biliary obstruction, cholecystitis, cholelithiasis and hepatoma.
4) Surgical diseases caused by paragonimus westermani were pulmonary, cerebral, spinal, abdominal. cutaneous and other organs paragonimiasis due to the immigration.
5) Surgical diseases caused by echinocccus were echinococcosis of the liver, lung, muscle, fascia, bone, kidney, spleen and other organs in which cysts were formed.
6) Surgical diseases caused by cysticercus cellulosae were cysticercosis of the brain, subcutaneous tissue, muscle, eye, heart, lung, peritoneum, kidney, liver, pancreas, pleura, omentum, mesentery, breast, bone and other organs.
